| Our Winter Lunches schedule
begins in November and runs through March. This outreach ministry
helps many in our community, the elderly, children, and working men and
women who use the lunch to make their food dollars go just a little bit
farther. We began this ministry in January 2007 feeding just 28 people that first month. In March 2011 we fed 435 people. To date, all of the food and supplies have been purchased with the generous donations form the people of Salem and Bethany churches, some donations of supplies from Sysco Cash & Carry, flyer printing donated from Kathy and Steve Selby, and a few donations of surplus chicken through the Samaritan Shelter. We have not required any financial aid from the regular funds of the Salem United Methodist Church budget. Samaritan Shelter has a soup kitchen 2 days each week throughout the year, however, during the weeks we have our lunches the Shelter does not serve. So in addition to reaching out through our church we are helping the Shelter. They tell us they welcome the break. Despite all of the donations, we are always in need of funds and volunteers. Any amount will help. Checks can be made payable to Salem United Methodist Church and on the memo line, designate "Winter Lunches", or if you prefer, cash is great. Donations can be accepted by Jan Aron, our treasurer, Barbara Browning, or Dave MacQueen. Give and you will be blessed. Those who work see the gratitude and thankfulness every month. If you would like to see for yourself, come join us. Watch for the dates in the bulletin, pick a day or two that suits you, and just come, or give Barbara or Dave a call. We welcome the help, and the fellowship is good as well. Blessings to all. |
