Salem United Methodist Church collaborates with Pocomoke Elementary School in an after-school program called Project Intervene.  The children, second and third graders, are bussed to the church Monday through Thursday, where they are given remedial lessons to reinforce their regular in-school classes.  The boys and girls arrive about 3:00pm, are given a few minutes for a snack and a break, followed by one hour of either reading or math instruction, and are given forty minutes to complete their homework before being picked up at 5:00pm.

The school system reports that this project has made a significant difference in the test scores of the children receiving the help and the overall school scores.

Volunteers are needed to work individually or in small groups to assist the students with their assignments.  No experience is required.  The program begins Monday, September 25th.

Jesus said, "Even as ye do unto the least of them, so also you do it unto me."  These children are the future citizens of Pocomoke.  Don't we owe it to them, and to ourselves, to help them be the best they can be?

Think about it.  Pray about it.  Volunteers are welcome for individual days, alternate weeks, every week, or as a substitute.  Volunteers are also needed to provide refreshments for special celebrations.  If you would like more information or to volunteer, contact Coleen Mister or the church office.
